A Birthday Reflection December 19, 2024

Oh, where are you, dear readers? I lament, fearing my words are but a cry in the wilderness. Yet, I implore you: gaze upon the hourglass, and heed its solemn message.

Behold, as the sand falls, its essence revealing what truly remains. All else, once deemed significant, now appears empty, hollow, and devoid of substance. The falling sand whispers a haunting truth: time has run out, leaving only the precious, the meaningful, and the timeless.

Will you hear my plea? Will you awaken to the fleeting nature of time, and prioritize what truly endures?

A Time for Introspection

I stand in introspection, reflecting on the journey that has bound me to this earth. This fleeting life has gifted me with:

Free water and air to sustain my being

Unlimited space to wander, explore, and discover

The freedom to gaze up at the open sky and ponder

Where am I within the grand expanse?

What is my place amidst life's thunder?

Echoing the heritage of my forebears,

I pray loudly, calling upon the ancient names:

Arjuna, Phalguna, Partha, Kiriti, Biridugonna, Vijaya.

May this birthday mark a new chapter in my life, one filled with purpose, meaning, and a deep connection to the world around me.

  1. Yes....The Telugu translation relates to this original.
Well- written based on experiences in life.
Incidentally, birudugonna is not an ancient name as you might aware.
Arjuna has 10 names in total .The one cited by you a part of a song from film Nartanasala.
Very rightly you invoked these names starting from Arjuna... Phalguna etc which is a normal practice to utter in villages even now when the villages are afraid of an impending lightning.
Your poem /prose also ends with a positive note.
Shall I greet you belatedly on your Birthday?
May God bless you with what all you cherish and give a long happy and healthy life.
